When applying for a job it’s important to research about the company culture, what they do and how the work, and then think of ways in which you could be beneficial to the company.  A great resource for your research would be there website.

Fidgeting is a big NO, if you tend to fidget when you’re nervous or under pressure use your hands to express yourself whilst talking. By avoiding this you will appear more relaxed and confident.  Think of an interview as selling a product, you have to convince them that YOU are indeed the best person for the job.


Think about what you want to say and how you want to say, it’s important to be well prepared, it’s ok to take some notes with a few points you would like to bring forward.  It’s also a good idea to make a list of possible questions that could pop up and practise how to answer them, remember not to sound rehearsed.

Do you have any contacts within the company?? Maybe they could advise you on the dress code, and give you some extra insight on the company and maybe even about what to expect at the interview.
Some companies encourage their staff to recommend people they know to apply for a vacancy, so if you know someone who already works there mention it during the interview.

Dress accordingly, remember that an employer will evaluate your appearance within the first 3 seconds of meeting you, hence why you should choose the appropriate attire.

  • A woman will appear smarter when the hair is tied back; this not only looks cleaner and more professional but will avoid hair from covering your eyes making it easier to maintain eye contact.   As to clothes you can never go wrong with a nice blouse and black/grey skirt or trousers.
  • A man should preferably wear either a suit or shirt and tie. Polo Shirts are also very smart if warn with nice smart trouser, denim should be avoided at any cost.
  • Don’t wear overpowering perfumes as not everyone finds them pleasant; choose a perfume with a soft scent as this will create a more relaxing atmosphere. Lavender and vanilla based fragrances are known have soothing effects.
  • Nails should be clean and nicely filed.
