MINISTER MEETS UK LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION
Chief
Minister, Fabian Picardo, recently met with the UK Leader of the Opposition,
The Rt Hon Mr Ed Miliband MP, the Leader of the Labour Party.
Mr Picardo
was accompanied by Hon Gilbert Licudi MP.
The
meeting, which was held at the Leader of the Opposition's Offices at
Westminster, was the first opportunity for the two men to meet since they
met at the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool in late September.
Following
Mr Miliband's recent remarks about "Tax Havens", the Chief Minister and Mr
Licudi briefed Mr Miliband on the latest developments in Gibraltar and in
particular on the work of the finance centre as a fully compliant EU
financial services hub that operates entirely in keeping with EU directives
and regulations, fully compliant with OECD rules also and therefore not by
any measure a "Tax Haven".

NEW PLAQUE TO SAPPER WARD

NEW PLAQUE TO SAPPER
WARD
During the
construction of the Camp Bay promenade on 3 January
1961, Sapper Michael Ward lost his life in a tragic accident. A brass plate
was later erected in his memory on the south side of the promenade wall,
adjacent to the steps.
Ever since
that date, the brass plate has been regularly cleaned and polished by Mr
Abraham Massias and members of the Gibraltar Branch of the Royal Engineers
Association who were part of the same construction party and present during
the tragedy.
The brass
plate has now been replaced with a larger stone plaque, in a similar
position - out of reach of the general public but prominent enough to be
viewed by interested parties. The stone mason, Charles Anes unveiled the
new plaque, watched by members of the Gibraltar Royal Engineers Association.
